A team of Modern students recently launched the Shooting Star Project to boost creativity, build self-confidence, and emphasize the importance of self-care. Students Destina Dutcher, Izzy Bunke, Brooklyn Perkins, and Susanna Nelson proposed the idea to The Modern’s President, Jessica Barry, and Creative Director, Justin Morter, in August. The Modern’s leaders were impressed by the students’ professionalism and encouraged them to launch the idea on campus.

Using brightly colored craft paper and a unique folding technique, the students will create three-dimensional stars with kind words, affirmations, or prompts hidden inside. Stars will be available on campus and offered to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The student’s future goals are to inspire and invite love and creativity within The Modern and in the Dayton region. They plan to transform the project into a student club and increase its reach by including Dayton businesses in the project.

“Creativity can change the world, and our students will change the world by inspiring others through the Shooting Star Project,” shared President Jessica Barry. “We are fortunate that the Modern community is full of passionate, caring, and creative students.”
