The School of Advertising Art’s second semester begins with many exciting new changes for the college!

Several new faculty and staff members joined SAA at the start of Semester Two.

These employees include:
Jeremy Evans – Facilities Coordinator
Ericka Harney – Adjunct Communications Instructor
Sylvia Lohmeyer – Adjunct Communications Instructor
Jim Crotty – Adjunct Communications Instructor
Molly Baker – Full-Time Instructor
Emily Webb – Associate Creative Director

SAA begins the semester with 66 second-year students entering portfolio. This rigorous 15-week term requires students to revisit and perfect previous design pieces while creating an identity set that showcases their talent to employers.

The college’s Career Services Department developed a new mentorship program as a way to offer alumni support to second-year students entering portfolio.

SAA’s Director of Career Services Sara Farr commented, “The mentorship program, modeled after the one in place for Portland State University’s graphic design portfolio review, pairs a current student with an alum who has gone through the process. We were very fortunate to have 66 SAA alums register for the program this year, so each student has his or her own mentor.”

The college publicly announced in December that they were transitioning to a tobacco-free campus beginning January 1, 2018. This policy stems from the college’s pursuit of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for their new 23,000-square-foot addition.

The expansion of SAA’s campus is nearing completion with classes already being held in the addition. The college is currently planning its grand opening weekend for March 2nd and 3rd.

“SAA’s second semester is always such an important time for our students as they commit themselves to perfecting their portfolios in pursuit of their dreams of being professional graphic designers,” SAA’s President Jessica Barry stated. “I could not be more proud of our students, faculty, and staff as we prepare for what I am sure will be a very successful and memorable semester.”
