On August 29, 2022, The Modern College of Design welcomed nearly 20 community leaders to a Rotary Club of Dayton meeting on The Modern’s campus. President Jessica Barry, a Dayton Rotary member since 2015, hosted the meeting on campus as part of Dayton Rotary’s annual Rotary on the Road program.

Community leaders in attendance spanned vast industries. Notable design industry leaders included Oregon Printing and Communications President and Modern Honorary Degree Recipient Judd Plattenburg and FilmDayton Executive Director Lisa Grigsby. Both shared their positive experiences in employing Modern students and alums as interns and full-time employees.

During the meeting, President Jessica Barry provided an overview of The Modern’s history, recent student achievements, and award-winning programs. Career Services Director Rick Willits explained how organizations could connect with students and alums for internships, co-ops, full-time placements, and freelance projects. Fourth-year student Alexia Woodward shared her experiences and how she developed creatively and personally over the last four years.

Additionally, Jessica noted The Modern’s efforts to attract creative students to the Dayton region by offering out-of-state scholarships and in-state tuition to eligible students who reside outside of Ohio.

The meeting concluded with a tour of The Modern’s state-of-the-art campus. Leaders met Chief Academic Officer Korinne Toadvine, observed Instructor Clancy Boyer’s portfolio class, and visited the photography and video studio.

“Passion filled our campus today as community leaders observed the faculty and staff’s dedication to student success,” shared President Jessica Barry. “I am thankful for our relationships with Dayton Rotary Club members and appreciate their continuous support.”
