The Modern hosted a Halloween Extravaganza on campus on Friday, October 28. In creative costumes, students, faculty, and staff joined in a celebration of The Modern’s most cherished holiday.

Brand Designer and Illustrator Josh Emrich kicked off the event in The Modern’s atrium. He shared the benefits of being a generalist in the design industry and urged students not to get discouraged early in their careers if they do not achieve success right away. He encouraged them to take advantage of opportunities as they arise and to allow those opportunities to define them and their success over time.

He also shared the design and illustrations he created for Netflix’s Stranger Things packaging, Keymaster Games’ Campy Creatures board game, and Bottle Logic Brewing’s product branding and packaging. Through his illustration work for Bottle Logic Brewing, he noted how his illustration skills have noticeably improved from project to project.

After the talk, Josh spoke one-on-one with students interested in learning more about his work. Students had the opportunity to purchase samples of Josh’s work, including limited edition prints, playing cards, and board games.

Students, faculty, and staff reconvened in the Student Gallery for pizza, music, and dancing. Secondyear students Arianna Heyl and Amaya Schreiber won a limited-edition print from Josh Emrich for their hand-crafted Disney’s Cars-inspired costumes. The staff also announced the winners of the faculty and staff’s pumpkin decorating contest.

“The Modern communities’ creativity is always on display as we celebrate Halloween,“ said Jessica Barry, President at The Modern. “Taking time to relax, connect with friends, and gain inspiration from Josh Emrich’s work made this year’s Halloween celebration extra special.”
