Michael Bonilla, illustration instructor at the School of Advertising Art, was commissioned by the Air Force Museum Foundation to paint a piece to celebrate the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force’s fourth building. The artwork was installed this month in the museum’s art gallery.

The painting, “Dreams Fulfilled, Dreams To Come,” is an abstract piece that depicts aeronautical evolution through images based on the stories told in the fourth building. It features overlapping designs that will intrigue spectators through multiple visits to the museum.

“My goal is to suggest timeless reality that connects and describes the continually evolving story of exploration and innovation,” stated Bonilla. “The painting unites ideas of man and machine into an overall exciting visual. The artwork is not only symbolic of the intellectual ideas created by the composition, but also artistic ideas representing the sensations of power and speed.”

Bonilla has been an instructor at SAA for more than 22 years. His passion for illustration is evident in his commitment to educating young designers on the importance of traditional art.
