For over three decades The Modern has been passionately pursuing excellence in design. Our faculty and staff have served students with unwavering commitment and energy. And our students have poured themselves into their workâcommitted to their careers. As a result, we’ve built a reputation for creating the next generation of design leaders. And as our world has evolved, so has our college.

1983
The School of Advertising Art (SAA), is founded by entrepreneur and graphic designer by Tim Potter of Yellow Springs, Ohio.
1984 - 1986
Classes begin in 1984 and the first students graduate in 1986 earning a Diploma in Advertising Art.
1999
SAA builds a new facility on East David Road in Kettering.
2000
SAA expands enrollment and begins awarding the Associate Degree of Applied Business in Advertising Art.
2007
Jessica Barry becomes president of SAA and begins leading a new administration comprised of Vice Presidents Matthew Flick and Nathan Summers.
2009
Our founder, Tim Potter, retires from the daily operations.
2011 - 2013
Jessica Barry forms Advertising Art Educational Services, Inc. in 2011 and purchases the college in 2013.
2017
We break ground on a new addition to better serve our students and their future careers.
2018
The Modern College of Design is born from a rich legacy for a new generation of design leaders. We finish our addition and start enjoying a refreshed space to accompany our refreshed brand.
