Student Work Exhibited at The Contemporary Dayton

[KETTERING, OH, 1/11/19] – Four students from The Modern are exhibiting work in The Contemporary Dayton’s annual student exhibition, Emerging: The Biennial Art & Design Student Show. Tonight is the Opening Reception for the exhibit, which runs through Saturday, February 9.

Assembled by Curator-in-Residence Jeffrey Cortland Jones, this exhibition brings together 30 talented art and design students from The Modern and other area colleges including Antioch College, Central State University, Sinclair Community College, the University of Dayton, Wittenberg University, and Wright State University.

Students from The Modern who are featured in the show include Emma Jones, Shelby Perkins, Rachael Shurte, and William Smith.

According to The Contemporary Dayton, the exhibit “runs the gamut from lush representational landscapes, to ceramics masquerading as paintings, to politically charged documentary photography, to material-based non-representational paper explorations, to the inward struggles with perceptions of body image, to video of the simple challenges of everyday life. This exhibition celebrates the diversity of thought in 21st century art making.”

“We’re proud of our students and the work they are exhibiting in the ‘Emerging’ show, stated Jessica Barry, President of The Modern.“ The Contemporary Dayton has long been a supporter of upcoming artists and talent, and we appreciate that they focus on those students emerging in the Dayton region.”
