The Modern College of Design Kicks Off New Academic Year

The Modern College of Design’s 2023-2024 academic year and fall semester commenced this week, August 21, 2023. Nearly 200 new and returning students are enrolled in The Modern’s award-winning residential and online design programs.

New student enrollment increased by 43% over the prior year, with students joining The Modern from Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. Total enrollment increased by 10%, nearly returning to pre-pandemic levels.

Student Services kicked off Welcome Week on August 16th with Move-In Day. Staff hosted social events on August 17th and 18th at each of The Modern’s housing locations for over 50 students participating in the housing program. A social event on Sunday, August 20th, brought over 100 students, faculty, staff, and families to campus, and events continued throughout the week.

The faculty introduced a new digital resource platform that saves students approximately $2,500 in book fees, and they welcomed two new instructors. Bruce Stapleton joined The Modern, teaching social media courses, and Elizabeth Ellis is teaching psychology courses.

“We are thrilled with the positive energy and creativity that filled our campus this week,” shared President Jessica Barry. “Students are energized and ready to expand their creative skills.”
