The Modern Wraps Up Successful Spring Semester

On April 24, The Modern College of Design successfully completed its Spring Semester. While the global pandemic caused great disruption, the students, faculty, and staff rose to the occasion and exhibited tremendous flexibility, creativity, and resiliency.

Prior to March 16, The Modern offered in-person classes only. After announcing the closure of its campus on March 10 to protect the health of The Modern’s students, faculty, staff and their families, the faculty and staff spent three days creating operational plans, training for virtual scenarios, and transitioning both the Design and Design Leadership programs to a remote learning environment. On March 16, The Modern began offering distance education courses using Google Classroom and a host of other digital tools. 100% of students who transitioned from in-person to distance education classes completed the semester. Instructors and student advisors spent countless hours mentoring and counseling students one-on-one through video chat.

Admissions, marketing, and financial aid teams, also developed new processes to provide virtual career planning sessions, virtual tours, and financial aid services to current and future students. “The faculty, staff, and students have overcome tremendous adversity. We put our students first and through the process helped them develop exceptional digital communication and collaboration skills,” shared President Jessica Barry. “I couldn’t be prouder of our faculty, staff, and students.”

The Class of 2020 is now participating in remote externships with employers around the globe. As the culmination of the Modern’s award-winning program, graduates will be available for employment on May 22, 2020.
