Conversations around the Metaverse have exponentially increased in mainstream, public conversation. Designers play an important role in the fledgling, yet burgeoning Metaverse and will continue to be integral in its expansion. To ensure that students, alumni, faculty, and staff are familiar with the technology and landscape, The Modern College of Design hosted the “Into the Metaverse: Design, Web 3.0, and Higher Education” forum on Thursday, November 11, 2021.

Clancy Boyer, Instructor at The Modern, coordinated hosting the event, bringing together several influential speakers from the Metaverse space. Experts in NFTs, virtual worlds, blockchain, and other related topics spoke during this interactive session.

Boyer said, “Design has come a long way in the nearly three decades that I’ve been involved. Because of Brand Design and Design Thinking we have recently been experiencing something of a golden era of design. The opportunities of Web 3.0 and the Metaverse are going to make all of that look pale in comparison. This is the gold rush of the 21st Century and we get to participate.”

As communication methods continue to expand into new visual mediums, The Modern College of Design continually seeks to empower students with the tools and skills to make a powerful impact in the world – physically and virtually.

Jessica Barry, President at The Modern College of design stated, “The Modern has a guiding focus on preparing our students for an ever-evolving industry. The design leadership and problem-solving skills they learn and expand while attending The Modern will help them shape the future. We’re excited to see how our students and alumni continue to contribute to society in positive and influential ways as the world around them changes.”
