On July 20, the School of Advertising Art officially changed its name to The Modern College of Design.

The transformation began earlier this year and reflects the organization’s continual dedication to updating curriculum to meet the needs of employers and ensure graduates are prepared for successful careers as leaders in design.

The new name also features a noticeable transition from the term “school” to “college.” With an update of the Associate Degree Program launching this fall and the planned addition of a Bachelor’s Degree Completion Program in Design Leadership, “college” more accurately describes The Modern’s new offerings.

To launch and live its new motto—Fueled by Passion. United in Design.—The Modern closed campus for the day so all faculty, staff, and students can invest in pursuing their unique passions.

“We are building a community of creative leaders and believe that they need time to pursue their passions. Studies show that people who devote time toward a hobby or passion are happier and more creative in their lives,” states Jessica Barry, president of The Modern. “Not only are we closing campus today, we have planned to close campus one day each semester, indefinitely, to show our commitment to this cause,” added Barry.

The Modern will be sharing stories of inspiring staff, faculty, students, industry leaders, and community members who are fueling their passions and making a difference.
