On Friday, April 10, graduating Associate Degree portfolio students at The Modern College of Design will be participating in the college’s bi-annual Mock Interview & Portfolio Review event.

This year marks a historic change for the event. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was moved to an online format rather than an in-person, on-campus format. Using Google Meet, students now have an opportunity to present their work to a worldwide network of design professionals and gain experience with video interviewing and presentations — a crucial skill, considering 63% of recruiters and hiring managers in the field use this technology when interviewing candidates.

This format also gives all professionals in the design community, regardless of physical location, an opportunity to see work from students at one of the top design schools in the country, as noted by GDUSA Magazine for the past eight years. Designers, art directors, and creative directors from companies such as Apple, ESPN, GTB, Innocean USA, MullenLowe, Ascendum Digital, MarketMuse, Olberding Brand Family, ChangeUp, and more have all registered to take part in this year’s event, as have noted solo practitioners including Nick Longo, Matt Stevens, Jeremy Slagle, Josh Lewis, Zach Lansdale, Andrew Hochradel and more.

The Modern College of Design Mock Interview & Portfolio Review Event is an integral step in our graduating students’ journey toward employment in the design field. Through interactions with the professional community, students gain experience and build confidence in themselves and their work.

For more than 30 years, The Modern has been offering students a special college experience with small class sizes, involved student support, and expert faculty. Located in Kettering, Ohio, The Modern’s mission is to educate, develop, and prepare students for successful careers in design. At The Modern, we offer one major — design — with two program options to choose from: an Associate’s Degree and a Bachelor’s Degree Completion program.

Students at The Modern learn to develop their ideas through research, brainstorming, sketching, and creative problem-solving. Our program offers courses in graphic design, web design, UI/UX, illustration, photography, video, and motion design.
