The Modern Takes Second Place at Advertising Competition

[KETTERING, OH, 4/6/19] – The Modern is proud to announce that its student marketing team took second place in the National Student Advertising Competition District 5 event held April 6 in Louisville, Kentucky. The team of 20 second-year students were also awarded the “Best Digital” distinction.

The National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC), sponsored by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), is the premier college advertising competition in the nation, providing more than 2,000 students the experience of creating a strategic advertising/marketing/media campaign for a corporate client. Students develop a marketing plan then pitch their work to advertising professionals at the district, semi-final, and national levels. This year’s corporate sponsor is Weinerschnitzel, the world’s largest hotdog chain. This is the fifth year The Modern has sent a team to the competition.

• 2017 – 1st Place Overall, Best Creative

• 2016 – 2nd Place Overall, Best Presenters

• 2015- 2nd Place Overall

Other colleges represented in District 5 include the University of Kentucky, Miami University, Ohio University, Youngstown State University, Marshall University, and Murray State College.

The team is advised by instructors Molly Baker and Andy Sharpe.

“We appreciate AAF for facilitating this experience for our students, “ stated Jessica Barry, president of The Modern. “While creating the marketing campaign, students gain hands-on experience developing a strategy and working as a team to solve a problem. We’re proud of the team’s ranking this year and also of all they learned.”
